today

by. rsy

clouds of bygones

and of that yet to be

cast a shadow

slowly creeping in

trembling.. i squeeze the air

in both fists close to the chest

in battle, i try to crush

the evil twin of yesterday

grasping for hints of peace

i was sure i’d held the other day

then… i sit back, look around,

and start to sway

to the sweet sounds of a sister’s laugh

the beat of jazz, the sight

of my latté

ah, remember

when i longed for today

in elusive, translucent, figurative senses

i had just about felt

its bold but lacy, impending fringes

a day i’d find that i can sit and not worry

happiness, i couldn’t

have known to be a reality

today - i can’t help

but smile gratefully

i’m right where I’m meant and

supposed to be
